3800m race
The Mt Cook Alpine Salmon 3800m is The premier event for experienced open water swimmers or those training for Ironman / Tri-athlete events.
The race takes in the bay, heading out to the island and then you head to the lagoon and back to the start, and because is so beautiful you will do it again. Like all our races there are dedicated safety staff who can give you a floatie if you need to catch your breath.
Age
Event is open to people 16+
If you are under 16 years and would like to participate contact the event organisers at swimrua2023@gmail.com. You will need to provide your prior cold water and distance swimming events experience and a recommendation from an independent swimming coach.
Course
The course goes clockwise from the start heading south towards the rowing course. Prior to the rowing course you turn right at the large yellow turn buoy. You then swim parallel to the rowing course till they reach the next large yellow turn buoy past the island where the 1000m rowing sign is. Turn right toward the lagoon and then back to the start/finish to pass between the 2 buoys at the start/finish and then repeat the course.
On the last leg swim toward the spot where the start finish/turn buoy is, look for the White Meridian Marquee and Black Start/Finish Arch on the shore. For the finish area, you must pass between the two buoys close to the shore before exiting the lake through the finish gate.

Teams Competition
You can race for yourself and as part of a team. When you enter, simply select if you’re swimming solo or lining up with your crew.

Cancellations and refunds
The Meridian Swim Ruataniwha operates as a not-for-profit community event. Any surplus funds from the event are invested in the Twizel Community. In the event that an entrant is unable to participate, no refund will be provided. Consider your entry fee as a contribution to water-based activities and water safety.
In the unlikely event that the Meridian Swim Ruataniwha event is unable to proceed for all participants, refunds will be provided less a $10.00 handling fee.
